My City: Leilani Momoisea

We were lucky enough to catch up with the super talented radio journalist, model and Lani Says blogger Leilani Momoisea to find out the places she loves to frequent in her home city, Auckland!

I’ve lived in Auckland for 14 years, but I call South Auckland home. I love the feeling of belonging that I get in Auckland, I don’t seem to get it anywhere else. I love the food, coffee and the strong sense of culture everywhere you wonder. It excites me too, that I live in the Polynesian capital of the world. But most of all I love that the majority of my friends and family live here, in Auckland too.

  1. Dizengoff

Nothing makes a perfect morning more than breakfast at Dizengoff while watching the Ponsonby strollers pass by. If you are lucky enough to grab a seat in this bustling little café, I highly recommend one of Dizengoff's bagels with a side of their incredible mushrooms!

  2. Ken Yakitori

Ken's is the one place that my friends and I love going to for dinner before a night out; although we nearly always end up staying there till close! It always has a great vibe and the food, well lets just say it doesn't help me reach my fitness goals, but it sure takes me to my happy place! My favourite is the Karaage chicken with Japanese mayo and a sake.

  3. Hong Kong Bakery

Who doesn't love a lazy sunday with the family? Family time is important and fun but doing it with good food makes it even better! We always find ourselves indulging in the cheese-bread and coconut cream buns from Hong Kong Bakery in Mangere Bridge.

  4. Bliss Reflexology

On the topic of relaxing, if I ever find my self getting running down or stressed, I drag my boyfriend or best friend off to Bliss Reflexology. Indulging in a foot massage or if I'm really treating myself, a full body massage, is a way to revitalise and de-stress.

  5. Panmure Basin

This is my favourite running area, it's so picturesque that my run is often finished before I know it! Perfect for a good work out whilst embracing the beautiful surrounding nature!

  6. Spicy House, Dominion Road

Cheap, authentic and delicious? Yes please! Spicy House is a petite, inconspicuous space but the food here is so good and so cheap. It’s incredible, the dishes are huge so you all share and get to have a variety rather than just sticking to one order. Friends and I like to go here post workouts, we've already got our favourite dishes sussed: Curry chicken, vegetable fried rice and deep fried squid.

  7. The Mangere Kirkbride Road Strawberry Farm

Nothing goes down better than a fresh strawberry ice-cream on a hot summer day. Even if you don’t live out near Mangere, make the trip. If you know of someone who needs to go to the airport, offer to take them and stop off on the way for a delicious and HUGE treat!

  8. Karaoke at Zoo Karaoke Bar Newmarket

My friends and I usually head to Zoo Karaoke Bar after Kens Yakitori. It's a fun filled singing occasion (sometimes with a few a few tragic ballades), but is a place not to be missed!

  9. Hitch Bar

Hitch is another place my friends and I find ourselves usually ending a night out. Dancing into the early hours of the morning to classic Hip Hop and R&B.

  10. Little and Friday

This popular café does the best sweet treats in Auckland and possibly even in New Zealand. Head over on for a Saturday afternoon tea and try the rhubarb tart!
