Summer Picks: Alex

We're all loving these long summer days spent on the beach, so in our next STAFF PICKS installment we had a chat to our lovely Newmarket Manager Alex about her favourite summer pieces for day and night, her guilty pleasures and a hint or two about where to spend these hot, sunny days.

What do you love about summer dressing and why?

I love the freedom of summer dressing. It’s such a sociable time of year so I find I have lots of fun playing around with casual and dressy pieces. It’s also the season for party dresses – which look cute paired with a good tan!

What is your favourite summer festival outfit?

My Betty Playsuit in black with a flowy Kimono, floppy hat & a pair of comfortable converse.

What is your ultimate party dress for the upcoming silly season?

The Silvana Shirt Dress! I’m looking forward to wearing mine to a summer wedding. The fabric of this dress really does speak for itself, it’s so unique & I love it.

Tawharanui or Omaha Beach. I love the Matakana area on a summer’s day; you cannot beat these two surf beaches!

What can we find in your beach bag this summer?

My RUBY towel, my Surface to Air sunglasses, a floppy hat, black Birkenstocks, my bikini, a Kimono, COOLA Pina Colada Sun Spray & a good book.

Favourite Ice Cream flavour....

Orange Chocolate Chip – Yum!

Spring Picks: Megan

In our second installment of our 'spring picks' series, our RUBY Hamilton Manager Megan shares with us just a few of the pieces that she has fallen in love with for spring 2013...

What do you love about spring dressing and why?

Spring feels so fresh and new, I love dressing for spring as the styles are carefree and the colours are modest.

Why is this your favourite outfit from the spring collection and why?

I absolutely adore the Shundar Dancing Top. Many of the Hamilton girls share my excitement about its arrival in the gorgeous iridescent colour! The lightweight fabric is perfect as the weather starts to get warmer. This top paired with the Liam leopard pants makes for a stunning, crisp spring outfit!

What is your favourite spring accessory and why?

My favourite accessory has to be the Kingsley Flats in the ballet pink. Whether you pair them with the Marco Jeans or the Shundar Long dress, the Kingsley Flats help bring an outfit together for an effortlessly chic look. The soft pastel pink adds a dash of femininity and they are perfect for the transition from winter to spring!

What is your favourite thing to do on a sunny spring afternoon?

On a spring afternoon you will find me on a casual stroll with my little fur ball of a dog Sammy, through the serene river paths throughout Hamilton. Although these twist around the city, the towering trees and the soft sound of the river flowing makes for a discreet escape from busy city life!

Spring Picks: Sonya

We had a chat to Sonya, our amazing RUBY High St Manager, about spring dressing and what you'll find her in this season!

What is your favourite outfit from the RUBY & Liam spring 2013 collection?

My favourite outfit has to be the Liam Transcendent Skirt, paired with the RUBY Bird Shirt in white, knotted at the waist. This outfit finished with a bold red lip sums up our RUBY “The End” collection perfectly. It’s effortless, chic and crisp; very American at the Italian seaside. It highlights the brighter side of the collection’s inspiration, The Talented Mr Ripley. I also cannot praise the RUBY Silvana Shirt Dress enough; this may be the dress I have been waiting to wear my whole life!

What accessories are you lusting after this season?

I am so excited to get my hands on a pair of the RUBY Kingsley Flats in the soft pink suede, they are such a sweet colour for spring and I know I will just live in these. I also love the new Surface to Air sunglasses, SADKO in brown haze and SALOME in khaki are my favourites - they are the perfect complement to any spring outfit.

What do you love about spring dressing?

Spring is often considered to be an “in between” season, which I love. There is something charming about the way people dress during spring and autumn, as if they’re caught in between saying goodbye to one season whilst greeting the next. One day you can be all rugged up, but the next you’re in a silk dress with a light sweater over the top. The fabrics used throughout our spring collections are a lovely reminder that summer is just around the corner, from linen, to cotton, to bamboo polyester, everything’s a little lighter and a little softer.

What is your favourite thing to do on a sunny spring afternoon?

Nothing beats Hallertau Restaurant on a sunny spring afternoon. The food is amazing and in my opinion they have the best apple cider in Auckland. It doesn’t hurt that the scenery is beautiful and relaxed with a friendly Golden Retriever who lounges about the restaurant. It’s nice to get out of the city sometimes, even if it’s only a thirty minute drive.
