Ruby Resort 2016
We arrive windswept and bronzed, having been on an adventure through photographs from an out-of-print book. In it, publisher Editions Delroisse interprets life in Djibouti, a small country found on the Horn of Africa.
Drawn to the book’s lush, multi-layered imagery, Deanna Didovich captures Djibouti’s spirit and colour in RUBY Resort 2016.
Shapes are airy and soft. They owe their volume to ruching, ruffles and lightweight materials that just feel better in the wind. The daisy-sprigged Ziela Lace Dress and a linen sun dress with a V-shaped back are statement daytime options alongside the GoGo T-Shirt and Dress, which feature over-sized gold eyelets threaded with grosgrain ribbon.
Colour takes its cue from the many stages of a sunset, from burnt red and blush to candy-coloured tones, balanced by sand, gold and black. Print moves from the straight-forward appeal of stripes and checks to detailing inspired by ceramic vase etchings and the daisy applique.
A youthful energy is always present in RUBY’s girl. But this time there’s a happy-go-lucky vibe which encourages us to disappear into foreign territories for a while.
